Hero. Woman. These two words, like it or not, are seldom linked together in one entity. Hero. Karaoke hostess. These two are an even unlikelier combination. In Hero however, femininity, karaoke hostessing and heroism combine promisingly in a drama about two karaoke hostesses held hostage one evening by an alcoholic regular customer in their own lounge. When the two - a mamasan with a past as gaudy as her makeup and a newbie “guest relations officer” with hopeful dreams for the future – eventually escape that same evening with the help of the police, after having passed the time in banal conversation, random shadow puppetry and singing Mariah Carey‟s Hero, they go right back into their routines of entertaining regular and new customers, albeit with different ideas of heroism and hope.
