Victor Victoria

The Blockbuster Masquerade Musical Comedy

From White Lie to Black Tie

She always knew to follow her heart.

Until she became the man of her dreams.

Armed with little more than fiery determination and a passion for singing, Victoria Grant arrives in Club Chez Lui to fulfil her dreams. A chance encounter with a has-been actor, Carroll Todd, convinces her to pretend to be a female impersonator in order to get noticed. She becomes Count Victor Grazinski at a swanky Paris Nightclub and is the toast of the town. Things however get complicated when a gangster from Chicago, King Marchan falls in love with “her”. Victoria has to make the ultimate sacrifice - will she be true to her love and give up her passion or will she pursue her passion and surrender true love?

Set amidst the hypnotic romance of 1930s Paris, the Esplanade Theatre is transformed into a magical evening of swinging jazz, magnetic grooves, dazzling sets, lights and costumes reminiscent of that era. Moulin Rouge-inspired nightclubs, the bohemian Left Bank and the fashionable streets of Paris are conjured in this spectacular masquerade musical. We even pay homage to the decadent French courts of Louis XVI with a musical number inspired by the infamous Marie Antoinette!

International jazz sensation, Laura Fygi plays the title lead VICTOR/VICTORIA, British actor Matt Grey plays the capricious Carroll Todd and Jake Macapagal from The Philippines plays the debonair King Marchan. Claude Girardi plays Squash Bernstein - King’s ever faithful bodyguard, Shane Mardjuki (Life! Theatre Award Best Ensemble nominee) as Henri Labisse and introducing Australian actress Nicole Stinton as King Marchan’s peroxide-blonde, spitfire girlfriend Norma Cassidy. Even Singapore’s very own fashion icon, Daniel Boey makes a special appearance as Andre Cassell, the owner of the fancy Paris Nightclub. This Asian Premiere of VICTOR/VICTORIA boasts a truly celebrity-studded cast assembled from all over the world!

Acclaimed composer Henry Mancini’s (who wrote the music for The Pink Panther, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the classic tune Moon River) evocative score with iconic tunes like Le Jazz Hot and Almost a Love Song is brought to life by Cultural Medallion recipient Iskandar Ismail and set to groove by Broadway-trained choreographer Lisa Keegan. With production design headed by Tan Ju Meng, lights by Mac Chan, costumes by Laichan and Moe Kasim, hair design by Ashley Lim and make-up design by M∙A∙C Creative Artist Beno Lim, VICTOR/VICTORIA unites the biggest and brightest talents from around the world and is the theatrical event of the year! Directed by Loretta Chen and produced by Felina Khong. A Zebra Crossing production.
