With 12 years of no-holds-barred sketch-comedy madness under its belt, STAGES is wrapping up 2009 with a Chestnuts Christmas special, Chestnuts Does Christmas: Like A Hard Candy Virgin.
Running at 8pm each night from the 28th to the 30th of December, Chestnuts returns to its birthplace, Jubilee Hall (Raffles Hotel) - this time with central cast Jonathan Lim, Judy Ngo and Tan Shou Chen, and a line-up of guests including Dwayne Lau, Hatta Said, Judee Tan, Teo Kiat Sing, Candice de Rozario, Ghazali Muzakir, Darius Tan and more. Chestnuts Does Christmas promises to “knock your stockings off” and “have you laughing all the way into the New Year” with sketches harking all the way back to Chestnuts' early years as well as brand-new spoofs.
Chestnuts does Christmas: Like A Hard Candy Virgin is written and directed by Jonathan Lim, who has wowed audiences and critics with his script and direction for years, including Emerald Hole (playwright; Action Theatre) Oi! Sleeping Beauty (playwright; Wild Rice), and H is for Hantu (director and playwright; STAGES). It will also feature the music and arrangements of Chestnuts staple Bang Wenfu, who has orchestrated, composed, and/or arranged for productions including It's My Life!, 881, If There're Seasons and Forbidden City. Live musical accompaniment will be provided by Julian Wong, up-and-coming musician behind productions such as Broadway 4 Suakus and Duck & Dive.
Lim comments that it is a “raunchy, funny, politically incorrect and witty production. Any true Chestnuts fan should not miss it! But newbies also don’t have to be scared to come- we’re all very open to new members to the Chestnuts family.”
Audiences of Chestnuts does Christmas: Like a Hard Candy Virgin can expect a night of non-stop hysterical laughter, whether they are veteran Chestnuts attendees or first-timers. So STAGES invites everyone to join them this Christmas as they bring you “all the must-have festive traditions – the CHESTNUTS way!”
