Esplanade Presents: The Boy Who Sees With Stones <<岩目忆>>

tags: Esplanade
What will a boy see if he lives in a world of stone cold darkness?

With eyes made of stones, he sees what he wants to see
as he imagines a world through his mind's eyes.

The Boy Who Sees With Stones is a "collective musing" project
that uses live music and sound, multi-media art and animation to
unearth and draw out worlds of imagination
lost in the process of growing up.

生着一双石头眼的小孩,看到的只是黑暗的世界, 还是他心中想象的奇异世界?

~ PERFORMANCE DETAILS ~

What will a boy see if he lives in a world of stone cold darkness? With eyes made of stones, the boy sees what he wants to see as he imagines a world through his mind’s eye. “The Boy Who Sees With Stones” offers a multi-sensory experience for those who wish to join him in his journey of creating a world that he will be existing in, is still existing in and where he once existed…

Co-produced by Esplanade - Theatres On The Bay and sonicbrat, “The Boy Who Sees With Stones” is an open story telling project that uses live devised music and sound, multi-media art and animation to excavate and extend imaginations lost in the process of growing up. Exploring the notion of “collective musing”, we invite the public to contribute episodes of imaginations they used to have when they were young by submitting write-ups at a dedicated woolgathering website. The collaborating artists will then pick out the appropriate and interesting ones, mix in with their own to propel the story into fruition.

The project employs music, sound, multi-media art and animation in a theatrical setting rather than a screening environment, stimulating the audiences’ senses and perspectives by inviting them to experience the performance lying down. Questioning the notion of “self” and the acceptance of one’s endowment and heritage, the performance hopes to remind the audience of the emptiness in endless pursuits and the importance of having a dream.

With live electro-acoustic music and sounds devised by Darren Ng (sonicbrat) and Giuliano Gullotti (amberhaze), sound-tracking live multi-media art and animation by Wu Ling Wei (TW), Lyu Shu-Ya a.k.a. bird (TW) and Ng Wen Lei; “The Boy Who Sees With Stones” is an intimate night swim in a sea of nostalgic imaginations through live sounds and visual art.
