Singapore, May 2010 - For the first time in Singapore, a representative exhibition of renowned artists from Israel will be held from May 20th to May 23rd, in celebration of the diverse cultures and talents that reside in the country. A prelude to the exhibition was held on April 20th, in honour of Israeli Independence Day.
This event also marks the first official public launch of Art Facet, a new gallery opened since January 2010. Founded by Rajul Mehta, a respected, vibrant Indian artist who lived in Israel for 20 years and has shown her work in Europe, Israel and the United States, Art Facet’s inaugural exhibition will offer a fresh new perspective in Singapore’s art scene.
In collaboration with Doron Polak, the curator and manager of the International Artists’ Museum in Israel, Rajul has organized a remarkable showcase of well-known painters, photographers and sculptors from Israel. A three-day event, this exhibition provides first exposure to high-quality Israeli art and a chance for art enthusiasts in Singapore to engage in a unique artistic and cultural experience. According to Rajul, this collection of various artists’ works represent the rich tapestry of different cultures, ethnicities and perspectives that have assimilated into the Israeli community.
Having lived in the country and immersed deeply in its local cultures, Rajul intends to raise the awareness of its artists in Asia. “In Israel, every family has gone through losing someone in a war. Their wealth of life experiences and their soulfulness are expressed through their art,” says Rajul. “This exhibition will show 11 different artists who are based in Israel but have originated from different parts of the world. The country is a melting pot of rich diversity — and the show reflects that with its wide spectrum of different styles and mediums. It’s about diversity and assimilation, so you will see an eclectic collection of contemporary and cutting-edge art.”
Singapore’s Israeli Ambassador, HE Mrs. Amira Arnon, perfectly sums up its culture: “Israeli art is the mirror of our colourful society and the artists capture not only pictures of our life in Israel but also the spirit of our society and traditions which are brought together in a fast, modern country. Art in Israel supersedes our daily existential threats and shows how a young and courageous generation endures and provides through their art, our optimistic peace loving concept of life in Israel”.
