Butter me Up!

With HUGE smackers framing the entry to Butter Factory, I had first thought this place would be called "Smooches" or "French Kiss" or "Lips" or something along those lines when I first passed by it in the daytime before it was opened. Yes. That was AGES ago...

Anyhow, very quickly I fell in love with Butter Factory. It is still quite non-descript with its signboard though. One still notices the yummylicious lips and not the tiny yellow slab of butter on the side. I would like to call Butter Factory the back-to-basic club that is quickly disappearing in Singapore. Nowadays, mega clubs like St James, Zouk, Ministry of Sound, Arena etc are taking over the nightclub scene here. However, Butter Factory manages to remain true to its roots. Small, cosy, friendly, and focused. Who needs 5 dancefloors anyway when one dancefloor alone has such amazing music?

Personally, i love Butter for 3 main reasons:

1) GREAT music,

2) good service (don't have to squeeze past thousands of people and wait ages to get your drinks), and

3) correct age group. Sigh, am afraid to admit that I'm phobic of going to zouk or MOS these days. Starting to feel like a grandma in those places.. Butter's crowd is the 20-30+ group as far as I can tell, with a pretty good mix of locals and some peppering of caucasians.

Another big PLUS for Butter is it's decent crowd size. Not TOO crowded yet definitely not deserted. All thanks to a previous raid that got its license semi-suspended so now it's got excellent crowd control. Any minuses? DEFINITELY the hours. Don't get cheated by their website. They don't actually open at 5pm (not that you'll wanna go at that time anyway) but they definitely close too early on friday nights!! Lights out at 3 is SO SO SO WRONG!! especially since the Butter scene starts up rather late (around 12mn).

So, better make some after-butter plans if you're headed there soon. Good things to note: One-for-one before 10pm and 11pm-12mn. So BE THERE at those times.  BIG BIG thumbs up and grooving feet for Butter Fac and see ya there soon!

About Silenius

Wikipedia says, "the Silenoi were followers of Dionysus. They were drunks, and were usually bald and fat with thick lips and squat noses, and had the legs of a human. Later, the plural "silenoi" went out of use and the only references were to one individual named Silenus, the teacher and faithful companion of the wine-god Dionysus. A notorious consumer of wine, he was usually drunk and had to be supported by satyrs or carried by a donkey. Silenus was described as the oldest, wisest and most drunken of the followers of Dionysus, and was said in Orphic hymns to be the young god's tutor.
