Can’t decide between a Western or Japanese cuisine for your meal? Why not have both! Pasta de Waraku takes the cake for having wonderful main courses inspired by both cuisines.

This restaurant in Marina Square sits snugly in a corner out of the public’s eye. The restaurant may be a little hard to find for a first-timer as it is located behind small shops selling knick knacks and trendy clothes clearly targeting the teenage market.

Walking in at 6.30pm, the restaurant was already packed to the brim; probably because it was also a Sunday. The waiting time for a table of 5 took me an estimated 30 minutes. While waiting in line, the service crew extended their hospitality by serving patrons in queue a decent glass of cola.

As we waited for a table, we were free to roam around the vicinity. I couldn’t help but drift towards the array of seemingly ‘real’ plates of pastas lined along the shop front. These plates are enough to set your tongues wagging.

Once in, we ordered 4 main courses and dessert totalling to $91.80, with service charge and taxes included.

A simple salad drizzled with extra virgin olive oil, together with a couple of cherry tomatoes tossed in was very promptly served after we placed our orders. The lettuce used was a beautiful light green, served fresh and crunchy.

The Pizza Set ($19.80) comprising of half portions of 2 main courses includes a pizza and pasta of choice. The pizza was topped with slices of salami and tomatoes below a very very thin crust. The pizza was baked to perfection, showing off its almost golden coloured dough. The Bacon & Potato pasta which we chose was nothing fantastic though. I was expecting the pasta to be as unique as the pizza. Alas, it did not liven up to my expectations.

When I saw the menu, the Prawn Spicy Carbonara ($15.80) caught my eye and indeed it did not fail to disappoint. The pasta is topped with a semi-cooked sunny-side up egg with a dash of saffron in spicy wafu creamy sauce. There was only a teeny bit of spiciness so this dish is palatable for anyone who can’t take spicy food.

The Oyster & Bacon Carbonara ($15.80) also served with a semi-cooked sunny-side up egg atop the pasta in creamy wafu sauce was served next. The pasta had a generous amount of oysters and pork bacon strips. My brother enjoyed the pasta but the taste of oysters was a little overwhelming for me.

The Seafood Pasta ($16.80) set in a tomato base sauce was served cooked with a handsome amount of prawns and squids thrown in. The dish was accompanied by 3 mussels adorning the circumference of the plate. A very westernized dish!

We chose a Tiramisu parfait ($9.80) to end off our hearty meal. Made up of vanilla ice cream (think 7-eleven’s Mr Softee) topped with strawberries, slices of bananas and a small slice of tiramisu cake and drizzled with chocolate sauce. Upon reaching the bottom of the glass, a handful of cornflakes greets you, ending this delectable dessert on a crunchy note. This sinfully delicious dessert is packed with a busting calorie content but a definite must-try!
