It dawned bright and sunny on a Sunday morning, perfect brunch weather. To celebrate the twenty-somethingth birthdays of two friends, we dressed up to the nines for some tai-tai dining at Paulaner Brauhaus. Home to Singapore's only authentic German microbrewery, the restaurant/ bar is located in a three-storey glass building at Millenia Walk's Time square. The main feature of the upper floor where the buffet brunch is located is the candy-striped maypole, a fixture in 16th-century Bavarian communities. The interior is spacious but cosy, with wooden furniture, handcrafted iron frames and pendant lamps adding to the picturesque scene.

Our table had had to be reserved a week before, testifying to the popularity of their Sunday brunch. The Brauhaus was deserted when we were first seated but it quickly filled up to maximum capacity - expect lots of expats and their families (toddlers and eighty-something grannies in tow), as well as yuppies and couples looking to gorge themselves silly.

And gorging is certainly the main agenda of the day - the brunch spread is not for shy stomachs! With its diversity of offerings, from sashimi to stew and salad to steak, Paulaner displays its familiarity of the all-encompassing Singaporean palate. However, the focus of the menu remains on the authentic European sausages, with at least 10 different varieties and sauces to choose from. Also available were grilled pork knuckle (aromatic and succulent), German dumplings (resembling small ketupat soaked in milk), wiener schnitzel (veal cutlet, breaded and fried) and duck confit (marinated in a rich wine sauce).

After a hearty helping of bangers and mash, one can wash it down with Paulaner's fresh beer - choose from light or dark. While no beer connoisseur, I found both brews agreeable and refreshing - perfect for any time of the day. One can also look forward to a tantalising array of desserts: black forest cake, cheesecake, bread and butter pudding, tiramisu, and all the Movenpick ice cream one can eat. Paulaner is guaranteed to satisfy any hungry customer.

Despite the brisk business, there were gratifyingly ample waitstaff on hand to keep our drink glasses filled and to clear our plates. Thumbs up for quick and polite service with a smile.

Sunday Brunch costs $30+++ with free flow of soft drinks or $40+++ with free flow of freshly brewed Paulaner beer. Parents will appreciate the lower pricing system and a designated play area for their kids.
