Almost every prata devotee in Singapore has paid pilgrimage to the Casuarina Curry Restaurant, rated one of the best prata places in Singapore. And to no surprise. There's a prata here for every kind of prata lover. The one thing puzzling me: why the name Cassuarina Curry Restaurant and not Casuarina Prata Restaurant? Especially since there are only like four different kinds of curries and about 20 kinds of prata...

Anyway, the reason why the prata here sells better than hotcakes is balance - the pastry is neither too soggy nor too dry. Add to the fact that it goes much easier on the conscience when your prata isn't swimming in a puddle of oil when you eat it. The fluffiness of the dough makes every bite a pleasure, even when you're not eating it with curry.

Those bored with the traditional kosong and egg pratas will be pleased by the selection of flavours ranging from banana and chocolate to mushroom, cheese and onions. Call me old fashioned, but I still prefer the original kosong prata; in my opinion, if you want cheese and mushroom and whatever, go for Italian pizza. Somehow the newer combinations just don't do it for me.

The comprehensive beverage menu gives plenty of choice. You may choose to indulge yourself with the sinfully rich milo dinosaur or try to wash down the grease with a refreshing glass of lassi - a fruit-flavoured yogurt drink. Both are equally delightful, albeit in different ways.

The staff here are eager to help and recommend what's good and suited to the customers' tastes and I was blown away by the capicity of their memories - they can remember exactly what you've ordered, regardless of how complicated your list is. Waiting time is short, perfect for the famished jogger from nearby Pierce Reservoir.

Finally something not many decent prata places can boast of: digging into good prata without the greasy elbows. The chairs and tables are clean, and the snazzy blue-and-orange theme gives the prata-eating experience a contemporary spin.

Considering the fact that you're paying coffeeshop prices, it's no wonder why both the common folk as well as celebrities pay their respects to great prata man here at Casuarina Curry Restaurant.
