Nestled in the bustling central business district of Singapore, Sarvanna Bhavan @ Robinson road brings a wide range of dishes to the large population of working Indians and vegetarians in the area.

Recently redecorated in a bright shade of green, the ambience in the restaurant is nothing fancy – closely resembling that of a fast food joint. They serve a variety of Indian vegetarian food - mostly South Indian food, including dosas, idlis, vadas, some snacks like samosas, and a few types of “thalis” a.k.a. “quick meals”– the Indian set meals. In addition, they have a few choices of Indian sweets – like boondi laddus, which are sweetmeat balls, badam ka halwa or almond pudding, coconut sweets etc. For those who like to complete their meal with a traditional drink, they have both hot and cold options – Indian style tea/coffee and plain/mango lassis respectively.

I ordered the south Indian ‘thali’ (Saravana S. Meal) which is a set meal of rice and vegetables with helpings of sambhar, coconut chutney and other condiments. The quantities are quite small but considering but there is good variety. I also ordered the Special Masala Dosa and the North Indian ‘thali’ (Quicklunch B) which is a set meal of 2 rotis, 2 vegetables, yogurt, some rice, papad and a sweet dish. The food in general was spicy but only mildly hot with a prominent taste of black pepper in some of the south Indian dishes.

This entire meal including a mango lassi cost me only S$ 19.80! Also having a fixed menu, sans customization, the turnaround time was very fast. A winning combination – good food, great prices and fast service!
