Fifo Food Review > Inagiku
Tranquility in the Heart of the City
Restaurant Review by luminosita December 21, 2008 1590 views
Walking into Inagiku, you are instantly transported away from the hustle and bustle of Raffles City, to a quieter world with enticing aromas wafting across the restaurant. A calming interior design makes this restaurant a good place to bring a date.
Inagiku’s menu is extensive with a wide selection and this is reflected in the lay out of the restaurant; there is a Teppanyaki Bar, Sushi Bar and a main dining area. The menu features a selection of food that is usually associated with Japanese cuisine – Sushi, Sashimi, Teppanyak, Tonkatsu and plenty of others. Dining at Inagiku, one is surely spoilt for choice. Instead of choosing amongst the multitude of dishes, you can select their suggested menus (which changes every so often) for S$150 and up.
Their ala carte selection is of course very good as well. I started with an order of their selected Sashimi Platter. It was definitely a treat with the sashimi amazingly fresh and was such a pleasure. I followed with an order of soft shell crabs and Japanese fish cake. Inagiku managed to make even the simplest of dishes into an event. The Japanese fish cake was crisp on the outside and yet soft and flavorful on the inside. The soft shell crabs, an dish that is common place, was fried to perfection.
I ordered two of their chef specials, a dish of egg white froth laced with Sea Urchin roe. It was interesting as the roe was enhanced by the blandness of the egg white froth. I personally did not enjoy it (I think more because of the roe than anything else) but it was definitely interesting. The other special I had was a dish of mashed potato with Unagi on top. The texture was contrasting and the taste was slightly in conflict. I felt that the Unagi could have been better complemented than a mash.
I ended with a mushroom pot and an order of the Japanese fried rice from the Teppanyaki bar. If you are a mushroom fan, this is a must have. It was simple and delicious, allowing the flavors of the mushroom to come through.
Overall, Inagiku is a good experience. It is on the higher end of the Japanese dining spectrum in Singapore and be prepared to spend at least S$150 and up, per person. However, my suggestion is to stick to the standard Japanese fare instead of trying some of their more innovative chef’s creations.
