Touted as one of the more up market Thai restaurants in Singapore, Sabai is a  welcoming restaurant with an interior design balanced between classical Thai and modern Thai. The tables are well situated, giving it a spacious feel. The most tempting course – the one made up of Thai desserts, was planted right smack in the middle of the restaurant, enticing us to constantly yearn for the end of our meal.

We ordered an array of traditional Thai cuisine, starting with Tom Yam Ruam Mit. What is Thai food without a good dose of Tom Yam? It was excellent. Sabai’s version of this traditional Thai cuisine was the clear type without the addition of coconut milk. It was spicy, hot and tasty. A well made dish indicating an exciting meal to come. Consequently, the main dishes arrived. Like traditional Chinese cuisine, all the dishes were served at one go.

Our table was filled with Yam Wunsen, Gang Daeng, and Tung Thong. TheYum Wunsen (Vermicelli Salad)  was appetizing and not too sour. I love the spicy element in Thai Cuisine. Next up was their Gang Daeng (Green Curry Chicken). What was particularly exciting was the cured fish provided. It was a good dip to go with the curry or delicious to eat it on its own. This was well made with no over powering green curry taste that plagues large number of Thai restaurants which serves this. It was light and tasty.

The Tung Thong (Thai Wanton) was crispy and an excellent side dish to complement the spicy order of food we ordered. It came with a sweet dipping sauce that complemented well with the rest of the dishes.

By the end of the meal, we had no stomach to order the Thai dessert buffet which tempted us upon entry into the restaurant. Instead with opted for a light Sticky Rice with Mango to end the meal. The sticky rice was nicely warm and had a aromatic coconut milk. The problem was with the mango. It was a tad bit on the sour side, which was not what we wanted to end a spicy meal with.

Overall, it was a good dining experience and for lack of a better Thai restaurant in town, I would give this restaurant a thumbs up.
